Storytelling workshop for beginners

In this one-day workshop, one of the country’s most successful performance storytellers teaches you how to tell stories that grip, teach, shock, reveal, lie and transport to other worlds. She will help you blend gods and myths, metaphors and figures of speech, narrative twists and performance tricks. She will help you discover the first steps to excellent performance and to spellbinding storytelling.

A good storyteller is able to keep an audience’s attention for hours, conjuring images, scents and scenarios, creating worlds that leave listeners mesmerised and enriched. A good storyteller can change an audience’s perspective on the world. But how? And why is it so hard to do it well?

Among other skills you will:

1) discover what kind of storyteller you are
2) learn techniques to help you learn a story quickly and easily
3) understand stage presence
4) explore the relationship between storyteller and audience
5) develop repertoire ideas
6) receive support in how to research a story
7) get individual feedback

This workshop is aimed both at absolute beginners interested in exploring storytelling as performance art, and at emerging performers across literature, theatre and dance who are interested in using myth and folklore in their practice.

Our workshops are deliberatly small to ensure each participant receives personal feedback.

The workshop involves elements of physicality so please wear comfortable clothes.
