Warburg Institute Conference

Project Categories: Events

In 2014 I programmed and organised a conference exploring ideas of spirit possession in contemporary visual art. So we partnered up with the Warburg Institute and invited speakers from some of the most prestigious universities across the world, from Bard College to Cambridge University.

Speakers:

Invitation, Invocation and Manifestation – Professor Susan L. Aberth (Bard College)

In Search of Counter-Enchantment: Totemic Powers and the Materiality of Magic in Victor Brauner – Dr. Daniel Zamani (University of Cambridge)

Witch Pictures: Female Magic and Transgression in Western Art – Pam Grossman (Independent Scholar)

The Curious Case of Georgiana Houghton’s Spirits – Prof. Marco Pasi (University of Amsterdam)

Invoking Colour and Form as Spirit Entities Dr. Amy Hale (Golden Gate University)

Communicating with Higher Spirits: Hilma Af Klint – Gary Lachman (Independent Scholar)
